Bruins represented well on NAIA National Awards Day
37 Bellevue student-athletes were named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes while the baseball and volleyball teams each earned NAIA Scholar Team honors.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced its 22 honorees in addition to over 10,000 Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes and over 2,000 NAIA Scholar Teams as a part of its annual NAIA National Awards Day on Tuesday. The day recognizes the association's highest individual honors and achievements of NAIA student-athletes, administrators and coaches.
Bellevue University saw two teams recognized as NAIA Scholar Teams and 37 athletes earn recognition as Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
The Bruin volleyball and baseball teams were each honored as NAIA Scholar Teams. The NAIA Scholar Team Award recognizes excellence in the classroom by NAIA teams. Team GPA requirements include:
1. Minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the nominating institution.
2. Include every varsity athlete certified as eligible in this sport and listed on any eligibility certificate submitted to conference/A.I.I./unaffiliated grouping eligibility chairs during this academic year.
3. Will be calculated using the institution's normal GPA rules regarding repeated courses, transfer credit, etc. Sum the total quality points/GPA points earned by all team members and divide by the sum of the total GPA hours earned by the team members.
4. Fall and spring grades from the current year are to be used when calculating the team GPA.
Additionally, 37 BU student-athletes were named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes accounting for 10 of Bellevue's 11 NAIA programs. The Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete program recognizes excellence in the classroom for those NAIA student-athletes who are juniors or seniors with an academic standing of a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA.
Students must appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport and have attended two full years as a non-transfer or one full year as a transfer. The awards are given annually to outstanding student-athletes in the various sports in which the program is active and their respective teams are eligible for NAIA postseason competition.
