Martinez signs with Bruin baseball
BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University head baseball coach Duane Monlux announced today the signing of Danny Martinez (Brighton, Colo./Brighton HS) to a letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic career at Bellevue.
As a senior in 2011, Martinez led the conference with seven home runs and earned second team all-conference honors for the third straight season. He batted .312 with 61 runs scored, 13 doubles and 33 RBIs.
"Danny is a kid with a big upside and has been a mainstay in the lineup for Brighton High School during the last three seasons," said Monlux. "He has played a lot of baseball in his high school career and we are excited to get him to Bellevue University and make him a part of the Bruin baseball program."
Martinez joins the Bruins' earlier signees Aaron Beil (Omaha, Neb.), Tyler Blood (Salt Lake City, Utah), Beau Dahmen (Genesee, Idaho), Frank Haskett (Orofino, Idaho), Dusty Kerns (Lewiston, Idaho), Ryan Knutz (Rochester, Wash.), Kody McFarland (Sugar City, Idaho), Ryan Moore (Monroe, Wash.), Tanner Moore (Omaha, Neb.), Paul Morrow (Omaha, Neb.), Taylor Stark (Auburn, Wash.) and Steve Weideman (Gretna, Neb.) in the 2011-12 recruiting class.
The 2011 Bruins finished the season with a 31-22 overall record, advancing to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round after winning the 2011 MCAC Tournament title.
